{Junk} Porch Style

My porch got the Autumn treatment this week.  I love, adore, long for and
crave Fall for a good portion of the year.  I love the smells...the colors...
the promise of the season ahead.  Everything about it really.
From the early sightings of colored leaves on the mountain to late fall cold
and rain, it leaves me wanting it to last longer.
I would rather decorate the porch for this season than any other...

yes, even Christmas!  I also have a strange adoration for pumpkins and
there is no shortage of them used for decorating around here.

The porch is a great place to use the good {junk} for creative good.
You gotta know I love anything metal that can be used to contain something.

When I saw this little vintage crib mattress spring I knew I needed it,
just wasn't sure where it would go.*smile*  It turns out I did need it...
to hang right above the front door.  It is the perfect place for a little
burlap bunting and to let a few minikins hang from...just poke a hole
through the middle and hang them with some rayon seam binding. Lovely.
I actually can't wait to decorate this for Christmas...it's gonna be good.

We found this beautiful stained glass window that we got for a steal because
the middle pane was gone.  The man put a piece of tin in there, we hot-glued the
house numbers onto it and voila', a pretty welcome to our home.

Don't forget the all important porch chairs.  We like the old stuff so ours
are a couple of seats out of an old meeting place in Manti, Utah.
Add a couple of pillows and a crocheted blanket in the perfect shade of orange.
Co.zy.

The following plug is brought to you courtesy of me:
Burlap bunting can be found at Fallow Field Farm Marketplace this weekend.

My Heart is a Little Full...

My heart is full today and I wanted to share it with you.
Once a year I get to watch the gnarliest group of guys you've
every seen descend on a hotel.
It's like a biker convention rolls into town.
But instead of being scared of them, I feel safer
than you will ever feel anywhere anytime.
They are all narcotics officers from Utah.
I get the privilege of hanging out with them for a week.
My husband is on the board for the
Utah Narcotics Officers Association and
I get to go to their conference with him.
Besides getting to spend a week with my husband,
I get to spend time with these guys.
They are men who are dedicated to
getting drugs off the streets of Utah and they do
an amazing job.  If you are from Utah you
probably remember this incident.
That was a horrible, horrible day.
I watched those men put their arms around
each other in a huddle last year at the conference
and tell each other how much they loved
each other and how they knew they would always
have each others backs.
Last night I got to be there as those officers
were honored by their peers...it was so cool.
It felt so good to honor them myself.
It was humbling to watch Officer Francom's
parents accept an award on behalf of their
son for his willingness to give his life for
a cause he believed in.
I just wanted to share that with you.
Pray for those men who are fighting a good fight.
Thank them because they are protecting you
and your families.

Run Away

There is a lot going on right now in our lives.
Building the greenhouse, pictures soon to come.
Getting ready for Studio 5 to come and do a segment,
post to come.
The marketplace is coming up...
and it is going to be FABULOUS this year...
post to come.
Are you sensing a trend here?
Add in to that my other job being a bus driver,
kids that need stuff {oh yeah, I have kids?},
and just trying to keep up with the day to day.
Every once in a while my brain goes into over load
{emergency lights going off} and this mama needs
a minute to recoup.  Yesterday morning amidst
whining...

I don't want to wear that, I can't go in
my room to get dressed because there's a spider,
I want a home lunch...all done with that whiney
high pitched cry voice.

Something inside my head went SNAP and I could
feel it getting ready to come out so I just left.
Yep, I sure did.  I stopped and got me a Pepsi
and some salt and vinegar chips, yes at 9am, and
headed for the hills.  Blasted a little Mindy Gledhill,
drove up the canyon and soaked in some peace for a minute.
That's all it took...some beautiful leaves, a little twinge of
fall in the air and singing by myself in the truck.

Sometimes we just need to take a time-out...
and that's just fine.
